Communication between home and school is vital to ensure students are given every opportunity to succeed.
At the beginning of the year, and every month thereafter your child will be issued with a ‘class newsletter’. This is to establish communication channels between parents/carers. Our aim is to communicate and inform parents/carers of important events or information a family needs to know about their child, their learning and the class.
We encourage parents to communicate with teachers, to exchange ideas and to inform teachers of significant happenings for your child. Teachers really appreciate good parent communication and value any information that comes from home about the child’s health matters, sleep issues, habits, and preferences and so on.
The open policy of the school encourages informal communication supported by the following:

- End of year Awards Morning
To ensure a satisfactory standard of communication between the school and parents/carers, notification of changes to phone numbers, addresses, medications, respite needs, alternative contacts or guardianship should be made to administration.
Communication to families
Our school newsletter is sent home fortnightly on Monday's with the youngest in the family at the school and is our main form of communication. Newsletters can also be emailed. Please make sure we have a current email address so that you can receive the newsletter. If, for any reason you are not receiving the weekly fortnightly newsletter, please contact the office.
Information about school events and achievements are advertised on our school notice board on Jacaranda Street.
Class notes may be sent home by teachers to inform or gain permission regarding special events or to keep parents informed about class programs.
Assemblies are held every Monday afternoon from 2.15pm in our school hall. This is an opportunity for parents to find out more about what is happening in our school as well as celebrating the achievement of our students.
Communicating with teachers
Parents are welcome to meet with teachers at any time of the year to discuss their child’s progress. Unscheduled meetings before school are difficult for teachers as they are preparing for the day. Please either contact the office or contact the teacher to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet.
All teachers have an Education Queensland email address. Often sending an email can be an effective form of communication if parents are unable to come to school to meet with teachers. Please see your class teacher or contact the office to receive teachers’ email addresses.
If parents have any questions or concerns or they would like to raise an issue, your child’s teacher is the first point of contact. If the issue cannot be resolved, parents should make a time to meet with the teacher and the principal together to work on a successful outcome.
Reporting
Report Cards are issued at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. Parents or teachers may request an interview following the release of report cards.
Formal interviews are offered to parents at the end of term 1 and the beginning of term 3.
